Understanding Denture Options at County Dental
Our restorative dentistry practice provides dentures for patients in Westchester Poughkeepsie, and surrounding Hudson Valley counties that are missing most or all of their teeth. If you have experienced loss of your natural teeth from periodontal disease, tooth decay, or injury it can often be uncomfortable and embarrassing.
Dentures Provide Lasting, Comfortable Solution
Complete dentures, also called full dentures, can provide a lasting, comfortable solution. Your appearance and your health will benefit from replacing missing teeth. Without support from the denture, facial muscles sag, making a person look older.
If you think you might need dentures, we invite you to schedule an appointment with one of our County Dental dentists who can evaluate your specific needs and recommend appropriate treatment.
Taking Care of Dentures
Caring for your dentures can seem confusing, but it’s quite easy. We recommend cleaning your dentures after every meal with a denture brush and denture cleanser or soap. Avoid gritty pastes or powders. Your dentist will be happy to explain the best way to care for your dentures.
County Dental provides both conventional and immediate placement at our restorative dentistry practice serving Westchester County, Poughkeepsie, and the Hudson Valley. County Dental recommends seeing your dentist at least once a year for a complete exam to ensure your dentures still fit properly and are in good shape.
Full Dentures Resemble Natural Teeth
The conventional method of placing dentures is performed in two or more dental visits over several months. The dentist gently removes the remaining teeth during the first visit, and then allows the mouth and gums to heal over several months. Once the mouth has healed the dentist uses the second visit to place the full dentures and adjust them to fit. The gums and mouth tissues adjust to the dentures in about one or two weeks. Full dentures are made to resemble your natural teeth so that little change in your mouth will be noticeable.
Immediate Full Denture Placement
For patients with adequate gum health, immediate placement of full dentures can be a convenient option, since it eliminates the lengthy healing stage involved in conventional placement.
Immediate placement is performed in two dental visits about one to two weeks apart. During the first visit, the dentist takes casts of the mouth. Once the dentures are ready, usually in about one to two weeks, the patient returns for a second visit in which the dentist carefully removes any remaining teeth and then immediately places the dentures.
County Dental also refits dentures that have become loose or uncomfortable over time. Contact one of our New York offices in the Hudson Valley to learn more.
